ART Shanghai 2012 Introduces a new venue and exhibition concept: THE LATIN AMERICAN PAVILION & THE INTERNATIONAL WING ART Shanghai May 10-14, 2012 New Town Central Park, 2238, West Yan'an Rd., Chang Ning District, Shanghai, China Curated by Aldo Castillo Art Shanghai 2012 will take place from May 10-14 and will be celebrating its 10th anniversary! This year introduces a new venue and a new concept focusing on the international art scene. Art Shanghai will bring to the forefront the most celebrated and innovative visual art from around the world. From contemporary masters to the most ground breaking emerging artists, the fair will prove to be a great platform for national and international culture. China has become one of the largest art markets in the world, challenging the United States and Britain for prominence with its ever expanding base of distinctive new collectors. "Research shows that Chinese collectors who once invested in traditional works of art, are now rapidly embracing the contemporary art market with a younger generation of affluent consumers driving record sales in this fast developing area of the world," said Aldo Castillo, Associate Director of the new edition of The Latin American Pavilion & The International Wing 2012. Castillo, who comes fresh from working as an Associate Director for the American Pavilion Shanghai Art Fair 2011, says that Shanghai has recently emerged as a critical cultural platform attracting worldwide attention for its interest in international art trends. "Since its establishment in 2003, ART Shanghai has been a successful fair for nine consecutive years and has a reputation for exhibiting exceptional art works and providing excellent professional service to exhibitors," said Castillo. This edition of Art Shanghai will continue to host The Latin American Pavilion & The International Wing, now co-curated by Aldo Castillo and Bandi-Trazos. The spaces will be dedicated to the highest quality of Latin American art as well of contemporary masters and emerging artists from the International art scene. Art Shanghai 2012 will be held in Hongqiao New Town Central Park. The advantage of this new venue is its location in the Hongqiao Development Zone and its beautiful natural environment. This year the fair will be launching Carnival as the theme of the exhibition, thus the name Art Shanghai Hong Qiao Arts Carnival. Located in the triangle encircled by Yan'an Rd., Hongqiao Rd. and Yili Rd., this is also the first time for an outdoor exhibition in Asia. The New Town Central Park covers an area of 130,000 square meters and borders on professional art institutes such as Shanghai Oil Painting & Sculpture Institute and Liu Haisu Art Gallery with a large number of elite visitors from numerous top office buildings and most populated elite communities and villas in the downtown area of Shanghai in Gubei and the West Suburb in its vicinity.
